railway station. This
station is well connected
by trains coming from
all the major cities of
India. A lot of super
fast and express trains
start from here. The Station
has 14 platforms with
trains to major cities
and suburbs plying through
here.
The Chennai Railway station
is run by the Southern
Railways. It has an impressive
structure. The station
is characterized by comfortable
retiring rooms, cloak
rooms, comfortable seating
arrangements, cafes and
stalls. Shops supplying
all possible essential
goods, including a pharmacy
can be seen here. There
are also innumerous ATM
counters here. The very
sight of the Chennai Railway
station is attractive
and it is well maintained.
It reminds us of the colonial
architecture.
The Egmore Railway station
has been built a century
back in the Indo Sarcenic
building style. There
are many important trains
that ply through this
railway station. It is
the second most important
railwaysation of the city.
The building was designed
by Robert Chisholm and
consists of domes similar
to the buildings built
by Mughal rulers. Egmore
Railway Station caters
to the northern and western
suburbs and several districts
neighboring the city.
