St Andrew’s church or St Andrew’s Kirk is located
in Egmore, very near the Egmore railwyastation.
The temple is architecturally supreme and
personifies the Georgian style of architecture.

referred to as the Queen of Scottish Churches
in the East.
The St Andrew’s Church was originally
built for the Scottish community in Chennai.
The East India Company was responsible
for building this church. The people responsible
for the construction of the church is
Major Thomas Fort de Havilland and Colonel
James Caldwell. The Georgian architecture
of this place is said to be one of the
best across Asia. The structure of the
church spells beauty and elegance. Similarly
the interiors of the church have been
built with Mahogany wood. The stricture
consists of domes and pillars. The stucco
work of the church gives it an added charm.
The church is said to have been modeled
as per the St Martin’s lane in London.
The dome of the church has been constructed
by the Syrian masonry method. The chequered
black and white marble floor of the church
is another beautiful sight.
