Nagalapuram is a small historic town and it’s a part of the Eastern Ghats then is not a familiar place to the tourists. The traveler who looking for the place without any disturbance along with that, to enjoy the nature of the beauty then you should visit this place. This village was located at Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh and this place is famous for camping, trekking, and the beautiful waterfall. This place is well-known for two things; one is Sri Vedanarayana Swamy Temple and another is Nagalapuram Falls.

Nagalapuram falls is also called Saddhi Koodu Madugu; the falls were located at an interval of 16 km from Nagalapuram village, 44 km away from Puttur, and 87 km away from Chennai. Nagalapuram Falls has large ponds where you can take a bath. Other than that its waterfall, you can also plan to visit the oldest grand shrine temple Sri Vedanarayana Swamy which is devoted to Lord Vishnu. This is one of the best spots for trekking near Chennai and this place offers a perfect weekend getaway within Chennai for a couple of days.

Famous Temple in Nagalapuram:

The temple has been constructed by Krishna Devaraya of the Vijayanagar Kingdom in tributes of his mother Nagala Devi. Based on “Nagala Devi” this place was named “Nagalapuram”. The architecture of the temple imitates the Vijayanagara styles and the main Goddess Statue is in front of the west. In this temple, the sanctum has Lord Sri Vedanarayana Swamy with his wife Sridevi and Bhoomadevi on their sides blessed the people who ask their wishes. Other than that, the first Avatar from the Dashavatar of Lord Vishnu is in fish form “Matya Avatar”, who protected the four Vedas from Somakudu and given back to Brahma.

The largest temple consists of a grand entrance, big Gopuram, corridors with more spaces, and an attractive part of the central shrine using admirable carving. In this temple, they celebrate the festival known as Surya Puja is a special function, which is annually conducted for 3 days in March month. You can see the beautiful view of the architecture built in this temple during those 3 days the sun’s ray’s drop on the main deity’s legs, navel, and forehead. Based on this instance people believed that Lord Surya came to receive blessing from Lord Vishnu with touching his feet. This temple is maintained by the TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam).

Nagalapuram Falls is a scenic beauty that offers a fabulous view of nature with trekking place from Chennai. This place is a short trip Waterfalls near Chennai within 100 kms. With some steep climbs for experienced trekkers and easy climbing trails for beginners, the natural wilderness is the perfect combination for an ultimate experience.

Trekking Experiences to the Waterfall:

The trekking originates from Kone Dam (6 km from the falls). The trekking has long of 12 km (two-way); generally, this trek covers one-day activity sometimes people can camp at nighttime. One option for the trek to the falls normally it takes 2 to 2.5 hours using the way of rocky landscape and slippery. The dense vegetation on the path offers natural shade which makes it hard to trek for the period of hot sunny days. There are many water pools in the middle of the falls that are good places for a short break. The central waterfall is a large pond at the bottom you can see crystal clear water. The central part of the pond is believed to be around 40 feet deep and is suggested to be very careful when swimming.
